Former Rebel Glen Gondrezick Dies Of Heart Troubles

Former Rebel basketball star Glen Gondrezick died this morning in a Las Vegas hospital of complications from a recent heart transplant.

"Gondo" played on the 1977 Rebel team that went to the Final Four in Atlanta. He had worked the last decade as the color man on the UNLV basketball broadcasts. After a career in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets, Gondo returned to Las Vegas to become a broadcaster and work in the casino industry.

I considered "Gondo" a great friend. The irony here is that he had a heart as kind as could be, but also carried with it a congenital disease that ultimately took his life.

Glen Gondrezick was 53 years old.

Editors note: You can watch Gondo in the 1976 game vs. Iowa State here on this web site. Go to the SPORTS tab and it is under the BASKETBALL section.
