The Local Evening News Race, Who's On Top?

From 5pm to 6:30pm is when the local stations go toe to toe to see who is king of the hill. This is clearly a two team race between Channel 3 and Channel 8. The other stations are far behind. These are the Nielsen Media Research ratings for May 2009 with viewers ages 25-54

KVBC Ch3.......2.4 rating
KLAS Ch8.......2.2 rating
KVVU Fox5.....0.6 rating
KTNV Ch13.....0.6 rating

Fox is the new player in the early news race beginning their evening newscast in Sept. 2007 and they still have time to grow and develop an audience, while KTNV still has not been able to gain any traction and still can't beat the new kids on the block here. 3 and 8 will battle it out for viewers in this key age group. Ch 8 actually has better overall numbers in this time slot, but many of their viewers are older....which is fine, not saying that's a problem here, but advertisers buy the key age group of Adults 25-54.
