B.B. King to Perform in August at the Mirage

I attending opening night at the BB King Blues Club at the Mirage. A very nice, large venue. The music was the best with Lee Ritenour, Robert Cray, Willie Nelson and BB among the guitar players that night. Looking forward to this event coming up in August. BB is a legend everywhere, but a Vegas icon!

LAS VEGAS – May 18, 2010 – The King of Blues, B.B. King, is set to perform two shows at the intimate B.B. King’s Blues Club at The Mirage on Thursday, Aug. 5 and Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now by calling B.B. King’s Blues Club at 702.242.KING (5464).

B.B. King, The King of Blues, has released more than 50 albums over the course of his career, many of them classics. King was born as Riley B. King in 1925 in Itta Bena, Miss. (currently home to a B.B. King’s Blues Club), where he would perform on street corners for dimes. King moved to Memphis, Tenn. in 1947 and started making a name for himself shortly thereafter on WDIA radio. It was with this station that he developed the more catchy radio name – first Beale Street Blues Boy then shortened to Blues Boy King and eventually to what he is now knows as, B.B. King. In the mid-’50s, King performed at a dance in Arkansas, where two men got in a fight over a woman and set the building on fire. Upon realizing his guitar was still in the building, King raced inside to save his guitar which he aptly named Lucille after the girl the fight was over as a reminder to never fight over a woman. Since then, King’s entire trademark Gibson guitars have been named Lucille.

Shortly thereafter, he has his first No. 1 hit for the song “Three O’Clock Blues” and began an extensive national tour, amassing 342 one-night shows. His career took off from there and King has not looked back since. He has changed the face of blues, bringing it to the mainstream with hit songs, such as “The Thrill is Gone” “My Guitar Sings the Blues” and “Is You Is or Is You Ain’t My Baby?,” all of which he has also won Grammy Awards for. King has won numerous more Grammy’s and has been inducted into both the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At 84 years old, he has yet to take a break, still touring where he performs more than 200 days of the year.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with opening act PJ Barth Band taking the stage at 6 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. Guests will be able to order dinner until 8:45 p.m. and B.B. will take the stage at 9:30 p.m. A limited menu exclusive of ticket prices will be offered the night of the show and features a variety of four-course dinner options.

Tickets are on sale now. Ticket prices are $100, $125, $150 and $175 plus tax and applicable fees. A limited number of King’s Court tickets are available for $200 plus tax and applicable fees and include VIP seating and a glass of champagne per person. Tickets are available for purchase by calling B.B. King’s Blues Club Las Vegas at The Mirage at 702.242.KING (5464).

The Importance of a Good "Public Administrator"

In 2006, Bob Nelson died without a will and living trust. For three years, Bob’s property was stuck in probate while his family spent more money in court than the property was worth.

Bob was a close friend of Steve Sanson. After Bob’s death, Steve learned that many families go through the same unnecessary struggle that Bob’s family did, just because they don’t prepare a will or living trust.

This is the backstory behind Steve’s decision to run for the Office of Public Administrator. Steve wants to make sure families have the information they need to take care of their loved ones. Once Steve takes office as the Clark County Public Administrator, he will make sure that every resident in Clark County has the opportunity to learn about wills, probate and living trusts.

While campaigning for the Office of Public Administrator, Steve discovered that the Office currently does not check the legal status of illegal immigrants. After death, illegal immigrants are granted the same rights as American citizens, including burial and property cleanup. This costs the County thousands for each illegal immigrant that dies without a will.

As the only conservative in the race for Public Administrator, Steve is already proposing a law to make citizenship a requirement for eligibility to use the Public Administrator’s services.

Sanson’s republican opponent, Jack Clark, was hand-picked by Harry Reid to run for this Office. The last thing Clark County needs is another Reid-style politician in charge of an already troubled budget.

Steve is a decorated veteran and has been active in republican politics for decades. He is a true, trustworthy conservative with a proven track record of community service and principled values.

Early voting is happening now. Don’t wait for Harry Reid’s candidate to slide in as the Republican nominee. Early voting is easy, fast and convenient so don’t wait! Voting lasts through June 8th.

Vote Steve Sanson as your republican choice for Clark County Public Administrator.

Election Stuff For 2010

Voting has begun throughout Nevada for the 2010 Primary Election. Here's one prevailing theme you will hear, voting is up from 2008!!! Election analyists will draw all sorts of brilliant conclusions from that, but I said weeks ago this would happen----and here's the reason why. 2008 was a Presidential election year, and for the first time Nevada held CAUCUSES early in '08. Jan. 19th to be exact. By the time the Primaries rolled around, people were not intersted. Nevada had already cast it's vote in the presidential election, and the primaries were virtually irrelevant. We'll keep a watch out to see if anybody actually figures this out in all of their brilliant analysis.

Bottom line---2008 numbers are virtually meaningless because Democrats and Republicans basically ingored the primaries because they voted in the Presdential Caucus earlier in the year.

The US Senate race will be the hot one. Harry Reid will win his Primary, but the Republican Primary is still very much in the air. I did an e-mail poll. Nearly 2,000 e-mails throughout Nevada and here's the results on the Republican side.

Chad Christensen 24%
Sharron Angle 22%
Danny Tarkanian 21%
Sue Lowden 14%
John Chachas 5%
None of the above14%

There is nothing scientific about this, but them's the results!

Joe Heck will easily win the Republican primary to face Dina Titus this fall and Craig Lake will win his district to take on Shelley Berkley in November.

Hot Nights In Vegas

Helldorado Rodeo Days nearly died in Las Vegas a few years back. There wasn't much interest in the events, or the Parade, but now things are rockin' once again with Helldorado. Fun night Saturday night downtown as thousands showed up for the parade. Perfect weather helped the great turnout for the event. I've been in plenty of these parades over the years---this one tops the list (oh---second only to the Rebel Basketball Parade after they won it all in 1990).

Featured in the parade this year were plenty of political candidates. Including Craig Lake, Joe Heck and Chad Christensen. Chad is running for US Senate and has a new video that is going viral on the web.

In a couple weeks the Las Vegas Hilton will host an event with some of the top, young guitarists in the country. Las Vegan Chris Iorio will be featured. More on this event coming up. Stay tuned!

That's the way I see it.....

Vegas vs. Reno?

No contest, so you say?

I will say both cities excel at what they do best.

On Saturday I woke up in Reno---flew to Vegas in the afternoon and spent a great day in both cities.

I love the sense of community in Reno. Las Vegas does not have that to the same degree. RenoFest was a fun event downtown and I love the area they have built downtown where the Truckee River flows through. If you have the chance to spend some time there, check it out. Family fun by the river with parks, stages for concerts and plenty of good food. Tourists are there too, but this is mainly for locals.

While in the airport a young Reno gal told me she was considering going to school at UNLV, but wasn't sure what she would do with all her F-UNLV t-shirts. I had no answer, but have always understood that this inter-state rivalry is much more intense in the north.

Once in Vegas I went straight from the airport to the San Genarro Feast. Probably the best community event that Las Vegas has. Jam packed with locals, but this year held in a casino parking lot. Not the best place for a community event, but it was still a great event. We need more of these. My son, who lives in Reno told me they have similar events for locals nearly every weekend up north.

Bottom line---Las Vegas will probably never have the same sense of community as Reno. We seem to cater way too much to the out-of-towners, and spend little time on ourselves. It is what it is. Perhaps UNLV Basketball and the great teams of the 80's and 90's was the only thing that really brought the locals together in a common cause. That is missing now----here's hoping that feeling returns, somehow...someway. Until then, we can learn a few lessons from Reno.

Chad Christensen Launches Anti-Illegal Immigration Reform

Today Nevada Assemblyman (R) and United States Senate candidate Chad Christensen launched an initiative for a Nevada Immigration Reform Referendum. Christensen said “It’s time for the people of Nevada to stand together and let our voices be heard. Illegal immigration is costing the taxpayers in Nevada 700 million dollars a year.”

Christensen made this announcement after Governor Gibbons refused to call a special session of the Nevada State Legislature to address the growing immigration problem. “This is not an issue that can wait.” said Christensen. “With the passage of the Arizona bill, we anticipate an even greater illegal population will be moving to Nevada.”

Christensen is working on a draft of the Referendum and will begin gathering signatures immediately. “We hope to have this Referendum on the November ballot but if we do not meet the deadline we will have the signatures verified for the next possible election.” Christensen said.

The goal is to collect 97,002 signatures from registered voters in Nevada. This places the referendum on the ballot for the people of Nevada to vote on.

Highlights of the referendum are:

1.) During a lawful stop, directs law enforcement to determine immigration status of individuals who they reasonably suspect to be illegal aliens, and for all persons who are arrested.

2.) Prohibits state officials and agencies from imposing bans or restrictions on sending, receiving or maintaining information relating to an individual’s immigration status, or exchanging it with any other federal, state, or local governmental entity for the purposes of determining eligibility.

3.) Allows legal residents to sue if they feel a government agency adopts a policy that limits or restricts the enforcement of federal immigration laws.

4.) Prohibits people who are hiring and/or picking up day laborers, and day laborers soliciting work from impeding traffic.

5.) Prohibits illegal aliens without work authorization from applying for work , soliciting work in a public place, or performing work in the state

6.) Makes it illegal to transport, harbor, or encourage illegal aliens to remain in the United States if the driver knows or recklessly disregards that they are illegal (as under federal law). Provides exemptions for child care providers and first responders.

7.) Authorizes the impoundment or forfeiture of vehicles driven by illegal aliens, or used to unlawfully transport them.

8.) An employer shall not knowingly employ an unauthorized alien.
