Vegas off-road Racer Sponsors Shelby Howard

Veteran off-road racer Kenny Freeman of Henderson is sponsoring the No. 70 Nationwide Series 0211 Chevrolet Impala driven by Shelby Howard in Saturday’s Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“We’ve got a really good car for Las Vegas that we took to Orlando to test last month,” stated Howard. “That car showed a lot of speed and handled really well. I’m looking forward to running at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and especially excited to have the Race Fuel Energy Drink and Stratosphere Hotel and Casino logos on the car.”

Freeman recently entered a business decision for his new venture Race Fuel, an all natural energy drink that will be available in stores by the end of the month.

“The construction business has been so bad for the past two years that I decided to start another venture,” explained Freeman, whose family has been in the carpet business for 50 years.

Freeman began contacting NASCAR drivers seeking an opportunity for sponsorship of his energy drink last year.

“Shelby has raced in Vegas before and he has respectable performances,” said Freeman. “His team was very receptive and offered us the hood and the TV panel for a very good price. They have bent over backwards for me with this deal and I’m excited to be sponsoring their team. Also, at the age of 15, Shelby was the youngest driver to run in an ARCA race and he also drove for Tony Stewart on the USAR racing team in 2005.

“NASCAR is the way to go as far as auto racing advertising is concerned now. The drivers are on national television and that provides incredible exposure.”

Howard, 25, is a native of Greenwood, Ind. When he was 17, he made the move into the Nationwide Series at Kansas Speedway where he finished 20th in his first race.

Since then, Howard has an average finish of 23.9. He has raced in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with an average finish of 20.8. He has finished 12th on several occasions. He also posted a best career Nationwide Series finish of fifth at Talladega in 2010.

Howard is now 18th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series points standings. He drives for ML Motorsports based in Warsaw, Ind.

Other sponsors behind Howard include Biomet, Foretravel Motorcoach, International Trucks; along with various other supportive companies.

The Stratosphere Hotel and Casino is also on the rear quarter panels of the car. Shelby will be participating in an autograph session Friday beginning at 8 p.m. at the Las Vegas hotel casino.

Las Vegas NFL News!

LAS VEGAS-Reports are that there is no progress in talks between the owners and players in the NFL labor dispute. The current contract is set to expire 11:59pm Thursday.

Jarrod Oldridge, owner of JO Sports in Las Vegas is the only Nevada businessman who has contracts with NFL teams and players, he hopes there is a quick resolution, “In my conversations with the teams and players everybody is optimistic that they will work things out, but there is also fear that some games could be lost to this labor battle,” said Oldridge from his Las Vegas office. It has been two decades since the NFL has had a work stoppage because of a labor dispute. “Clearly my business works best with a strong, vibrant NFL, but more important, I’m a fan of the league and don’t want to miss the scheduled kickoff of the season in September,” continued Oldridge.

Coincidentally, on Friday, Hall of Fame Quarterback Joe Montana will be visiting JO Sports in Summerlin to sign autographs and meet fans. Montana is not available for interviews prior to the Friday March 4th event, but media will be able to shoot video of Montana at the event. Interview requests that evening will have to go directly through Montana or his agent at the event itself.
